To participate in athletics in Salem-Keizer, athletes must pay a fee of $175 per sport. These fees are capped at $350 per student-athlete and $700 per family. In other words, if a son and daughter - both in high school - wanted to participate in two sports in a year, the cost to the family would be $700. And this is before any associated costs such as cleats or other athletic shoes, gloves, socks, hats, etc. Allowances are made for students in financial need - as identified by their participation in school free or reduced cost lunch programs, but the $350 and $700 caps remain in effect.
The Salem-Keizer High School Athletics Booster Club fears that these costs to participate might hinder participation in athletics. We don't believe any child should be denied participation due to a lack of money. Therefore:
"The primary mission of the Salem-Keizer High School Athletics Booster Club is to help offset participation fees required of Salem-Keizer athletes. We are dedicated to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate because Salem-Keizer high school athletics focuses on excellence in academics, leadership, character development, and competition as vital components in student achievement.
We promote equitable athletic participation among all Salem-Keizer high schools and Salem-Keizer high school athletes."
